Launch Updates

India’s GSLV Mark III rocket was launched successfully, carrying with it 36 🇺🇸OneWeb satellites from the 🇮🇳Satish Dhawan Space Centre. [Space.com]

 

🇺🇸Quantum Space announced their first operational mission, QS-1, to cislunar space for October 2024 with payload partners including 🇺🇸GEOST and 🇺🇸Blue Canyon Technologies. [SpaceNews]

 

 

 

Headlines

🇺🇸Amazon’s Kuiper constellation faces a tight schedule to launch half its satellites by July 2026 as most rockets under contract are yet to launch, and the availability of rockets to deploy them is insufficient. [SpaceNews]

 

🇨🇳Changguang Satellite Technology is set to increase its Jilin-1 constellation from 138 to 300 satellites. The first 138 are scheduled to be completed by 2023; the rest by 2025. [Industry Update]

 

🇨🇦NorthStar Earth & Space selected 🇺🇸Virgin Orbit as the launch provider for their first three 16U satellites for launch in mid-2023. [SpaceQ]

🇦🇺Myriota secured a launch agreement with 🇳🇱ISILAUNCH to deploy satellite Kanyini on a SpaceX Transporter mission in 2023. Kanyini was developed by 🇦🇺Myriota, 🇦🇺Inovor Technologies, the 🇦🇺SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre, and the 🇦🇺South Australian Government. [SpacewatchGlobal]

 

🇮🇹D-Orbit signed a launch contract with 🇺🇸AAC SpaceQuest for the launch and deployment of four SpaceQuest satellites over two launches in 2023 and 2024, via the ION carrier. [SatNews]

 

Funding 

🇺🇸Apex Space raised $7.75 million in a round led by Andreessen Horowitz to start mass production of its Aries satellite bus, a 103-kilogram platform that the company says can support a customer payload of up to 94 kg. The in-orbit demo is scheduled for 2023. [CNBC]

 

🇺🇸Array Labs raised $5M in a seed-funding round backed by Seraphim Space and Agya Ventures to build a constellation of radar satellites to fly in formation and gather global 3-D imagery. A tech demo will be launched at the beginning of 2024. [SpaceNews]

 

🇺🇸Space Force to select companies to undertake various activities to design, develop, and manufacture a new spacecraft (ranging from 12U to 180kg) for its Space Test Experiment Platform (STEP) 2.0 program. The five-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract worth $50M will cover the integration, testing, launch and post-launch operations for the mission. [SpaceNews]
